My Generation

2019-Present

The world wasn’t built for millennials. All the advice and guidance doesn’t apply, and our entire generation is left unmoored, insecure, drowning in a sea of anxiety and debt and disease and thrashing desperately against the inexorable crushing world that was left for us by our forebears. In recent years, the rate of change has accelerated – the dream of self-sufficiency, of home-ownership, of a rich and thriving social life, recedes into the distance as the pandemic, inflation, and the yawning chasm between the haves and have-nots cut this dream to shreds. This project speaks to that angst, the uncertainty, the disconnect between what should have been and what is, and the tension between adulthood and the sense of being perpetually dependent. Each image uses symbology where possible to imbue the narrative with careful blank spaces for the viewer to fill in with interpretations from their own lives.
