I’ve always been drawn to the street animals of the world – wherever humans live, so do the cats and dogs that make their living in a world separate but inextricably connected to our own. While cats (and a pig family) feature in this project, it is the mighty street dog, or callejero, that takes center stage.
It is estimated that 80% of the world’s dogs are street dogs – feral animals that live among humans, but not as pets. During the past two years, I have traveled to small towns in the Yucatan and literally followed street dogs around for days in an effort to photograph, map out, and understand this life of theirs.
