How do you distill the essence of a dancer in a photograph? How do you describe motion using stillness? If dance is the beauty of movement, then these photos are a attempt to record this beauty. I've heard from talking to dancers that there is an interplay between thinking about the movement and keeping in mind what it looks like to an observer. In this project, I ask dancers from different disciplines to create a visual work of art by dancing - and using this method, stillness is rewarded with sharpness, and movement is rewarded with broad brushstrokes created by limbs, bodies, fabric. The result is not unlike a painting, with the body as a brush.
